The National Association of State Boards of Geology exam is a standardized test that consists of two multiple choice sections that are each four hours in length: The Fundamentals of Geology (FG) and the Principles and Practice of Geology (PG).
The FG (Fundamentals) exam is taken after achieving the required number of credit hours in geological course work. In Kentucky, the requirement is 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours. To apply for registration, an applicant must submit a completed application for geologist-in-training, a copy of their official transcript, and a $225 application fee. If the applicant is a student, verification from the university indicating that he/she is a geology major must be included with the application.
The PG (Practice) exam is taken after achieving the required number of years of work experience. In Kentucky, five years of experience in professional geological work is required. The applicant must submit a completed application for professional geologist, copy of official transcript, reference letter(s), documentation of any related work experience, and a $225 application fee.

When submitting the application, be sure all required information is provided (i.e. transcripts documenting geology course work, reference letter(s), documentation of any related work experience, letter of intent to sit for exam with specified dates and fees [DO NOT send exam fees with your application. Those will be paid directly to Prometrics]).
Checks should be made payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer.
Testing candidates that would like to request ADA accommodations must do so by written request with documentation to the Board no later than 90 days prior to a testing date, per ASBOG guidelines.
